Trying to fake it

We went on a trip to the Oregon coast with my friend. He bought a kite and we were flying it on Cannon Beach when I thought I'd try to create the illusion a camera was attached to the kite while it was flying. On reflection, I didn't manage a particularly convincing shot, mainly because the wind was not filling the kite as the wall I was standing on was too sheltered. Next time, I need to bring a large step ladder. I think a super wide angle zoom would also help too.

Some images say something so clearly, even when they don't say anything at all.

Flying pine cones

Now here's an interesting idea. Throw pine cones up in the air and then try to track them and photograph them in mid air. All while lazily sitting around a cabin on Thetis Island trying not to do too much.

A Deli in the West End

This is a great deli, both inside and out, in Vancouver's West End. The West End has quite a few of these heritage houses, in among the shiny new towers. Each is unique and this one has been put to great use.

Getting the most out of LIFE

One of the reasons for this blog is that its a place to post more offbeat pictures than I would normally upload to Flickr, and then explain and discus them. (Which I know I could do on Flickr, but anyway...) However, before I have got round to actually posting any images, I decided I wanted to share this website I found today, called Life. It's owned partly by Getty Images so all the photos are from professionals. What I like is that they are covering current news stories, but just focusing on the pictures. For example, at the moment they have a story (in pictures) of the upheaval taking place in Honduras. While you obviously need to read something to understand the basic facts, when it comes to appreciating how individuals are being effected, a picture, as they say, is worth a thousand words.

The First Post

This is the first post of an experiment. This is a new blog / website to showcase my photography and thoughts about photography and even occasionally other stuff too. I have another blog, thebartons.net, also hosted by the lovely blogger, but that is more to keep friends and family up to date with what's going on in our lives. This one is about one of my passions, photography, and its all mine!
